My first experience with cross stitch was in 2013, when my husband and I were celebrating our second wedding anniversary. I wanted to create a “cotton-themed” gift and discovered that both embroidery floss and Aida cloth fit the bill. Fueled by enthusiasm (and zero experience), I ambitiously planned a massive piece to finish in a week. Which was obviously ridiculous. I quickly scaled down to a much smaller, entirely manageable project inspired by Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure—and my husband still has it today.

When I started SnailFishes Stitches, I didn’t have a clear vision. I just knew I wanted to make space for creativity that feels joyful, playful, and approachable. Over time, the shop found its own personality, and I’ve mostly tried not to get in its way.

During the early months of the pandemic, I saw a surge in people seeking simple, tactile hobbies like cross stitch. It made me realize how vital creating with our hands and expressing ourselves really is, and how easy it is to lose that in a screen filled world.

My hope is that you find patterns that make you sparkle, that bring joy to your hands and heart, and that inspire you to stitch for yourself—whether that’s with SnailFishes Stitches or anywhere else. I’m just glad you stopped by. ❤️
